The Volcano Arenal is located
in the province of San Carlos. The nearest town to the
Volcano is La Fortuna. Around the north side of the
volcano, from the lake to the town of La Fortuna, winds a road
with many hotels and restaurants spread out along the way.
Private Transfers:
We can take you to Arenal / Fortuna from San Jose by a private 4x4 or van with AC and driver. Service is door to door. Departs any time. Rates for up to 4 people $100, additional passengers $15 each. The least complicated way to
to travel. Takes around 3 hours.
Collective Transfers:
There are two companies offering regular collective transports to
Arenal. Those leaving San Jose depart at 8:00 am. The
duration of the trip is approximately 3 hours. Rate is $29-$39 per person. Pick up and drop off at most hotels. Air-conditioned min bus.
Public Bus:
From San Jose
"Direct" busses leaves daily at 06:15, 08:40 and 11:30 all AM.
From Cuidad Quesada Bus goes from San Jose to Cuidad Quesada from 05:00-19:30 every hour. Takes a little over two hours. Cuidad Quesada to Fortuna there are busses at 06:00, 10:30, 13:00, 15:30, 17:15 and 18:00. Takes about an hour.
From Guanacaste Get to Tilaran. (See below)
From Tilaran Busses leave Tilaran for Fortuna daily at 07:00 am and 12:30 pm. Takes around 2
hours from Tilaran to La Fortuna.

Horseback from
Monteverde to Arenal - This is a wonderful way to travel to
the Volcano. Get picked up at your hotel and driven to the
lake where you will ride for 3.5 hours then take a boat across the
lake. We will drop you off at you hotel in Arenal.
This ride requires no experience and is a safe route for riders
